I just read a new book called As Fast As Words Could Fly by Pamela Tuck. It's about a black boy growing up in the 1960's and going to a new school during desegregation. The story is based on the real-life events of the author's father. We always hear the same stories about racial segregation and this book gave me a chance to remember that the civil rights movement involved ordinary people and affected the lives of many people. Luckily, our country has made progress toward tolerated differences, but we still must recognize that we have work to do.

I just finished reading Masterminds by Gordon Korman. I could not put it down. It's about a town that lived in a very remote and sheltered part of the United States. Ten children have been cloned from the DNA of extremely bad criminals. The children have no idea that their lives have been one big lie up until now! You have to read this book to understand the adventure that begins with this first book in a new series. I can't wait to read the second one.

I loved reading Upside Down Magic! I am sorry to say that I didn't get to finish reading it to my classes at WLC. If you pick it up this summer and finish it, you might want to pick the second book in the series. I am definitely going to pick it up for the Callahan library! Wonky magic lovers, watch out!
